Nigerians protest on social media: No Prepaid No Payment
For the past 2 days now some angry Nigerian's took to social media and declare No Prepaid No Payment pointing to various Nigerian Electricity distribution companies while complaining about outrageous bills regularly brought by them.
No Prepaid No Payment movement started trending on Twitter as more and more Nigerians joined the movement while narrating their own experience paying outrageous estimated bills monthly. The movement is to end estimated bills in Nigeria, People should be paying for what they use not what they supposed to pay based on the environment and type of house they live in.
This movement is to call the attention of the federal government to give orders to all power distribution companies in Nigeria to provide Prepaid meters to all consumers under their coverage. However, the unavailability of the prepaid meters shows the high level of fraud in Nigeria. The prepaid meters are either not available or expensive to get which is just a trick to keep extorting money from Nigerians
Some are pointing accusing fingers at Ikeja electricity distribution company as the big players when it comes to estimated bills but the obvious truth is that 80% of Nigerians are still suffering in the hands of all these distribution companies in all the 36 states in Nigeria. Those distribution companies are interested to get more and not willing to give more.
Estimated bills hurt when you pay more than what you use but pains more when you don't see light at all and still receive outrageous bills the next month. Imagine receiving bills even when the transfer is not functional for the past few months, its time to act and let them know that enough is enough.
I don't know what you think about this movement but the truth is that every reasonable Nigerian should support the truth and fairness, let the managers of all these distribution companies hear the voice of Nigerians and do the right thing.
Why some distribution companies avoid Prepaid meters
The prepaid meter has become a very big issue for some greedy power distribution companies because they will earn far less than what they earn through estimated bills. Some customers who might be paying less than 2000 Naira per month usually receive more than 10,000 Naira bills per month.

How consumers will gain if implement No Prepaid No Payment.
This will be a dream come through to many Nigerian's because that is the only way to pay for what they use, and if any of the DISCOs decide not to bring light then no money for them simple. When a transformer spoil and they refused to fix it then no money.
Generally, this will encourage consumers to use electrical appliances that matter most since there is always a cost to pay based on what they use.
We have up to 11 power distribution companies in Nigeria, below are their names and the areas they cover.
1. Abuja Electricity Distribution Company: covers Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nassarawa, Abuja
2. Benin Electricity Distribution Company: Takes care of the following areas, No 5 Akpakpava Street, Benin-City, Edo, Delta, Ondo, and part of Ekiti, Benin
3. Enugu Electricity Distribution Company: Will cover No 12 Station Road, Okpara Avenue, Enugu, Enugu, Abia, Imo, Anambra and Ebonyi, Enugu.
4. Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company: Manage and distribute power to the following areas, Capital Building, 115 Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara and part of Ekiti, Ibadan.
5. Jos Electricity Distribution Company: Meant to take care of power distribution in No 9 Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos, Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, and Gombe, Jos.
6. Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company: Will cover Nagwamatse Building, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kaduna, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, Kaduna.
7. Kano Electricity Distribution Company: Manage and distribute to No 1 Niger Street, P.M.B. 3089, Kano, Kano, Jigawa and Katsina, kano
8. Eko Electricity Distribution Company: Takes care of power distribution to the following states 24/25 Marina, Eko and some part of Lagos.
9. Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company: Covers Secretariat Road, Alausa, Ikeja Lagos.
10. Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company: Will distribute to No 42 Obiwali Road, Rumuigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, PH.
11. Yola Electricity Distribution Company: Will cover No 2 Atiku Abubakar Road, Jimeta Yola, Yola, Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe, Yola.
